PTLLS 6302-03: Preparing to Teach Level 3

This Level 3 Award provides an introduction to basic practical teaching skills, principles and theory. It is a qualification for those who are looking to:

  • Teach on a one-to-one or group basis
  • Teach people working towards recognised qualifications in the workplace, college or community setting
  • Seek career progression within their area of work
  • Intend to be trainers in industry, commerce or the post-16 sector

PTLLS is the first step to a full teaching qualification (QTLS).

After gaining the qualification you should be able to:

  • Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
  • Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
  • Demonstrate session planning skills
  • Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
  • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

Course entry requirements

There are no formal qualifications however candidates must have a qualification or experience in their subject skill at an appropriate level and must be over 19 years of age.

How will you be assessed?

Assessment will be a combination of a short portfolio of evidence, practical skills demonstrations and observations (including a 30 minute micro teach).

NB: Due to the nature of the course candidates should have the ability to manage the requirements including, reading and interpreting written assignments, ability to write answers in a legible and understandable form.
